Kankakee police investigated an armed robbery at a business at 2925 block of Riverstone Court on Aug. 19. According to a report, an employee said a black male approached the counter with two cans of beer and pulled out a knife. She said the suspect asked her to give him the money. The suspect fled the store with a can of beer and drove away in a car.
Criminal damage to property
Kankakee police took two reports of damage caused by a BB gun Aug. 19. The first was a garage in the 400 block of North Entrance Avenue. A window at a home in the 200 block of South Alma Avenue was damaged.
Bourbonnais police arrested Brandon W. Conti, 24, of Bourbonnais, for driving under the influence of alcohol on Aug. 19. According to a report, an officer was traveling southbound on South Main Street at University Avenue when his in-car radar clocked a northbound vehicle going 48 mph in a 30-mph zone. The officer observed the vehicle drifting in its lane. The driver, Conti, refused field sobriety tests and chemical testing. He was released after paying the required bond.
Bourbonnais police arrested Ty W. Lemna, 54, of Bourbonnais, for driving under the influence of alcohol on Aug. 14. According to a report, Bradley police were looking for a car involved in a hit-and-run accident at Armour Road and Illinois Route 50. The suspect vehicle rear-ended the other vehicle. A Bourbonnais officer located the vehicle in the 200 block of Mohawk Drive. The officer smelled the odor of alcohol coming from Lemna’s breath. Lemna was placed under arrest after field sobriety tests. He refused chemical testing. He was released after posting the required bond.
Possession of a weapon
Kankakee police arrested Maurice J. Lewis, 44, of Pembroke Township, for possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while license suspended on Aug. 19. According to a report, officers were dispatched to the area of South Elm Avenue and East River Street in reference to a suspected DUI driver with a weapon possibly in the vehicle. A vehicle driven by Lewis was stopped in the 100 block of South Schuyler Avenue. According to a prosecutor, Lewis’ speech was slurred and an open can of beer was found in the vehicle. In the back seat, officers recovered a Ruger 10/22 rifle. A judge set bond for Lewis at $50,000.
