TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Just before the scheduled start of their salary arbitration hearing, right-hander Brad Clontz and the Arizona Diamondbacks agreed today to a $630,000, one-year contact.
The 29-year-old right-hander, who made $350,000 last season, had asked for $800,000 in arbitration and had been offered $550,000. He was 1-3 with two saves and a 2.74 ERA in 56 games with Pittsburgh last year.
Arizona acquired him from the Pirates on Dec. 13 for right-hander Roberto Manzueta. In addition to his base salary, Clontz can earn $162,500 in performance bonuses.
All four Diamondbacks in arbitration settled without hearings. Left-hander Brian Anderson got an $11 million, three-year contract, and right-hander Matt Mantei ($2,831,000) and shortstop Andy Fox ($750,000) agreed to one-year deals.
