HOBART, Australia (AP) _ American Amy Frazier had to struggle before reaching the third round of the Tasmanian International women's tennis tournament.

Frazier, the top seed, had to come from behind twice Tuesday before beating fellow American Holly Parkinson, a qualifier, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4.

Both Frazier and Parkinson were error-prone in their baseline duel. In the deciding set, Parkinson led 3-0 and 4-2 before Frazier rallied.

The only other seeded playing in action Tuesday, No. 8 Sarah Pitkowski of France, had an even narrower escape.

Anna Smashnova of Israel held two match points when serving at 5-3 in the third set before Pitkowski prevailed 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.
