Kral: Basic Manners Need to Be Taught Again
I am in 9th grade at Legacy High School. Recently, I learned of an event that occurred in my neighborhood where a few girls acted inappropriately toward a Starbucks barista.
This event made me think about manners, specifically the lack of manners that seems to be getting more and more common in our community. It is starting to be seen throughout society where people won’t hold the door open for someone, say please or thank you, or where people will ignore someone who is in need of some basic assistance.
I think that this is really unfortunate. I learned that a long time ago, people would learn manners in school. Maybe we may need to bring this back because it appears that a lot of people don’t know the first thing about common decency.
But it’s not just kids who should learn about manners, there are plenty of adults who are in need of them as well. I think that something should be done to fix these problems so we can live in a community where people have more respect for one another.
I know it won’t be an easy fix, but I hope if everyone can plan to do something polite and respectful every day, we can truly make a difference.
