VALLEY SANTA: Local Mothers Hope For Help In Giving Gifts This Christmas

November 30, 2018

Julie, a single mother, is struggling to support her two daughters with special needs while spending most of her days working for low pay.

Her 3-year-old daughter Kaitlyn would like to receive dolls and puzzles for Christmas. Julie hopes her 1-year-old daughter Anna could receive musical toys and sound books.

Julie asked for Valley Santa’s help to give her daughters gifts and a “wonderful Christmas.”

“I’m just trying to see them smile,” Julie wrote in a letter to Valley Santa.

Valley Santa relies on donations to purchase Christmas gifts for children in need throughout Luzerne County. Volunteers shop for and wrap toys at Boscov’s which are delivered to children in need.

The program, now in its 35th year, has received many requests from parents in need of help such as Maria, a single mother of five children.

In her letter to Valley Santa, Maria said she is disabled and struggling financially and can’t afford Christmas gifts.

“I can barely pay my bills and rent,” Maria wrote. “I am asking for help so my young children can have gifts on Christmas.”
