Fire Signs Beasley Through 2005
CHICAGO (AP) _ DeMarcus Beasley of the Chicago Fire, one of the top young American soccer players in the United States, signed a contact extension Thursday with Major League Soccer through 2005.
Beasley, 18, is a fan favorite in only his second season at left midfield in Chicago. He was voted MVP for the United States earlier this year in qualifying for the FIFA World Youth Championship for players under 20.
``He is an important and exciting part of our team and one of the top players in the United States,″ Fire coach Bob Bradley said.
Beasley was acquired by Chicago in the 2000 draft from the Los Angeles Galaxy for two first-round draft picks.
Earlier this week, the Fire also obtained Beasley’s older bother Jamar from the New England Revolution.
Beasley had an assist in Chicago’s 1-1 opener at Columbus. The Fire opens its home schedule Saturday night against D.C. United.
