1 dead, 1 injured after car hits scooter, police say
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — An 18-year-old man was killed and a 15-year-old boy was critically injured after the scooter they were riding was struck by a car in New Haven.
Police say a car driven by a 55-year-old woman hit the scooter around 10:30 p.m. Friday on the Tomlinson Bridge. Police say the woman fled the scene but was found and is expected to face charges.
Officers responding to the crash found a car’s bumper, the scooter and both riders in the road. The 18-year-old was pronounced dead at a hospital. The 15-year-old is in critical condition. Their names have not been released.
Police say witnesses saw the woman flee and reported her location to officers, who detained her. She was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation. Her name has not been released.
