n Today, the Portneuf Sangha, 424 W. Lewis St. in Pocatello, is offering a half-day New Year silent retreat from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The end of one year and the beginning of another is a good time to pause, reflect on our lives and recommit to good intentions for the future. There will be alternating sitting and walking meditation, ending with mindful eating. Silence will be maintained throughout the retreat except for minimal instructions and an ending discussion. Participants should dress comfortably and bring a sack lunch. Tea and water will be available. Participants are asked to arrive on time and to be able to stay the whole time and to turn off cell phones during the retreat. n There will be a blood donation opportunity from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday at the American Red Cross Blood Donor Center in Pine Ridge Mall. Make an appointment to donate blood by downloading the free American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-733-2767.

n Ring in 2019 at Jim Dandy Brewing with a Brew Year’s Eve Party. The party begin at 6 p.m. Monday at the brewery, 305 E. Lander St. in Pocatello. Wear your best and most beautiful ugly sweater and receive $4 pints all night and a raffle entry to win one of five raffle prizes. Raffle includes free pints, merchandise and a $25 gift card!

n The Idaho State University College of Arts & Letters will host its sixth annual New Year’s Eve Gala starting at 8 p.m. Monday at the Stephens Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $125 and can be purchased at isu.edu/calgala. The gala will feature festive food and drink, live music, mentalist Sean Bott, a costume contest, entertainment by ISU student actors, dancers and musicians, and an art gallery.

n On Monday, the Senior Activity Center in Pocatello will have a New Year’s Eve fundraiser dance from 8 p.m. to midnight. There will be a $5 fee per person charged at the door. The center will provide party favors and sparkling cider. Attendees are asked to bring a dish or dessert.

n Shawn & the Marauders with Snoozy Moon will play at First National Bar, 232 W. Center St. in Pocatello, starting at 9 p.m. Monday.
