LONDON (AP) — Rafael Nadal guaranteed he will stay No. 1 in the rankings after Wimbledon as he reached the fourth round with a 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 victory over 19-year-old Australian Alex de Minaur. Nadal hasn’t dropped a set so far in the tournament. Against de Minaur, he faced only three break points and saved them all, while producing nearly twice as many winners, 30-17. This is Nadal’s eighth trip to the round of 16 at the All England Club.

LONDON (AP) — Top-ranked Simona Halep has been knocked out by Hsieh Su-Wei of Taiwan at Wimbledon, losing 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the third round. Halep’s exit means only one of the women’s top-10 seeds remains in the tournament — No. 7 Karolina Pliskova.

MOSCOW (AP) — A Dele Alli header in the 59th minute has given England a 2-0 lead over Sweden and put his team into a strong position to advance to the World Cup semifinals for the first time since 1990. England had a 1-0 lead at halftime in the quarterfinal match after Harry Maguire’s header from a corner kick in the 30th bounced before it beat Sweden goalkeeper Robin Olson. It was Maguire’s first international goal, and England’s 10th of the tournament.

MOSCOW (AP) — Alex Ovechkin has brought the Stanley Cup to the World Cup. The Washington Capitals captain took the NHL trophy to a fan zone in Moscow where World Cup games are screened. With the Russian National Guard providing security, Ovechkin lifted the cup above his head in front of a crowd of fans, who were allowed to take photos with the trophy.

FONTENAY-LE-COMTE, France (AP) — Overall favorites Chris Froome and Nairo Quintana each had trouble in the opening stage of the Tour de France today, while Colombian rider Fernando Gaviria took the race’s first yellow jersey with a commanding sprint victory. Froome crashed with about five kilometers remaining in the mostly flat 201-kilometer (125-mile) stage from the island of Noirmoutier-en-l’Ile on the Atlantic coast to Fontenay-le-Comte.
