PHOENIX (AP) _ If a new stadium is built in nearby Mesa for the Arizona Cardinals, the NFL will award a Super Bowl following either the 2004, 2005 or 2006 seasons to the area.

The league's Super Bowl policy committee on Monday passed a resolution that upon completion of the proposed multipurpose stadium in the East Valley, the Cardinals would be host of a title game. Voters in Mesa will have two referendums on their ballot in May for the construction of a new stadium and convention complex.

Of course, the area would have to form a host committee and submit a bid that satisfies the league's specifications for staging a Super Bowl.

Phoenix held the Super Bowl in January 1996 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, the current home of the Cardinals.
