The 10th annual Patriot Tour launched Saturday from downtown Beaver Dam with overcast skies and the threat of rain.

Despite the damp outlook, however, about 150 supporters and 50 riders gathered to launch the event, and to share their love for veterans and their service to the United States of America.

The opening ceremony began at 10 a.m., opened by dedicated volunteer Brad Weber. The tour flag was escorted to the stage by an honor guard of cycle rider/veterans.

Rick Ramirez opened the event with a stirring rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

An empty chair was set to honor the POW/MIA (Prisoner of War/Missing in Action) movement, honoring veterans who remain lost abroad, awaiting return home.
