Clinton, Iowa’s Sears closing; owner plans similar store of his own

May 5, 2019

CLINTON, Iowa –Although Clinton’s Sears store is set to close in a little over a month, its owner says he soon will unveil a new store with a new name.

Darrick Bickford confirmed Sears Hometown Store, 1815 Lincoln Way, will close June 7.

His hope is to open Bickford’s Hometown Store in July, he told the Clinton Herald.

“We’ve been working on and considering the change for quite some time,” he said.

Bickford, of Camanche, Iowa, bought the Sears Hometown Store at 3606 E. Lincolnway in Sterling on Aug. 26, 2012, from Sears Holding Corp.

He sold it to Sean Austin of Pittsfield in July 2017, and Austin closed it a year later, on July 24.
