December 19, 2018

GLIDE — “Dillon Towne put it in at the buzzer.”

Wildcats coach Jeff Smith summed up the game in one sentence Tuesday night after Glide’s last-second 53-51 nonleague boys basketball win over Days Creek.

Towne, a senior post, scored 27 points, including the game-winning putback off a Terrell Russell miss. Guard Caleb Alexander added six points on a pair of crucial 3s to propel the Class 2A Wildcats (5-2) to victory.

Blake Ellis scored 16 points, Rocco Muir added 13 and Zane DeGroot had 12 for the 1A Wolves (5-4). Ellis hit five 3-pointers for Days Creek and Muir hit two from beyond the arc.

Days Creek jumped out to an early lead after a 21-point first quarter. Glide struggled to find shots and trailed by six at the half.

The Wildcats pulled within five by the end of the third period and managed to use effective clock management and defense in the fourth quarter to finish the comeback and earn the two-point win at the buzzer.

Glide will return to action Dec. 28 against Bandon in the Oakland Tournament. Days Creek plays at Rogue River on Saturday.
