Truck Carrying Tomahawk Missile Overturns

July 21, 2006

NEW YORK (AP) _ A tractor-trailer carrying a test missile collided with another truck during the morning rush hour Friday, sparking a call to the bomb squad before authorities determined the missile was inert.

No injuries were reported. Authorities said it was a Tomahawk test missile.

``It is considered to be technically a training/testing device,″ said Joseph Green, spokesman for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The New York Police Department bomb squad went to the accident scene on Interstate 95, where the tractor-trailer had overturned, and determined no danger existed.

``Information provided by the NYPD to the ATF was that there was no explosive material or triggering mechanism to fire the missile,″ Green said.
