Wilbraham woman, struck, killed crossing street
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Police say a 57-year-old Wilbraham woman has been struck and killed by a vehicle while walking across a Springfield street.
Janet Carpluk was crossing Allen Street near the Family Care Medical Center at about 2 p.m. Sunday when she was struck. She was not in a crosswalk.
Police say she was thrown onto the hood of the vehicle and suffered extensive injuries.
She was taken to Baystate Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle that struck her was a 39-year-old woman from Springfield. She stopped at the scene and cooperated with police.
The accident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.
