No. 8 Texas Whacks Wofford 103-72
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Brandon Mouton scored 20 points to lead six Texas players in double figures and the second-ranked Longhorns routed Wofford 103-72 Thursday night.
Texas (4-0) topped 100 points for the second time in a string of early season tuneups. Kenny Taylor scored 13 points, Brad Buckman and Royal Ivey each had 11 and Sydmill Harris and Brian Boddicker each scored 10 for the Longhorns.
Adrien Borders led the Terriers (2-3) with 20 points.
Wofford, the second-smallest Division I school with only 1,100 students, was the latest small fry to play the role of punching bag on Texas’ homecourt. The Longhorns beat the smallest Division I school, Centenary (850 students), 94-59 last week.
The Longhorns have won 19 straight at home.
Texas next faces a tough two-week stretch with games against No. 7 Arizona and No. 6 Duke. The Longhorns play Arizona in New York on Tuesday in the Jimmy V Classic.
Texas kept up the gaudy offensive numbers this season in large part by scoring 32 points off 28 turnovers. Mouton had seven steals and scored 15 points in the first half.
The Longhorns led 26-17 when Brian Boddicker’s 3-pointer started a 15-3 run that broke the game open. Edgar Moreno scored six straight points on fastbreak layups off turnovers as the Longhorns built a 41-20 lead. The Terriers committed five straight turnovers in the stretch.
Texas shot 52 percent for the game and outrebounded Wofford 47-35.
Texas started this season needing to solidify the point guard position after T.J. Ford’s early departure to the NBA. Ivey has started every game and finished with four turnovers and just two assists against Wofford. Moreno led the Longhorns with six assists.
