Man pleads guilty to attempted murder in police shooting

September 7, 2018

DENVER (AP) — A Colorado prosecutor says a man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder for firing at a Denver police command post.

Denver District Attorney Beth McCann’s office says 22-year-old Kairo Alejandres-Vizcaino pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of attempted murder with extreme indifference. He is set to be sentenced on Oct. 26.

Police say Alejandres-Vizcaino on May 5 fired into the Denver Police Department’s mobile unit, which was placed at an intersection in southwest Denver. Police chased the shooter’s car and arrested Alejandres-Vizcaino after he crashed into a police car.

Officers found a semi-automatic handgun in the car.

Police said officers were inside the command post at the time but no one was injured.

He originally was charged with six counts of attempted murder with extreme indifference and vehicular eluding.
