Vermont investigators seek cause of West Burke garage fire
WEST BURKE, Vt. (AP) — Vermont fire investigators are seeking the cause of a garage fire that caused a propane explosion and ended up destroying two houses as well as the garage.
There were no injuries from the fire reported on Depot Street in West Burke at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
West Burke Fire Department Chief Tom Villeneuve says that when firefighters arrived the garage was fully engulfed in flames and it had spread to the nearby house.
The Caledonian Record reports that a propane tank explosion sent debris, some of it flaming, in every direction, catching a vacant house across the street on fire as well as starting several small fires around the village.
Firefighters from nine departments took about six hours to put out all the fires.
