Orange and Black program to help nourish students during the weekend

September 19, 2018

The Ludington Area School District has a new intervention known as the Orange and Black Pack program. The program is much like the Lakeshore Food 4 Kids program started last year by Sara Ewing, Tara Autrey and Carrie Brandt, three local mothers who saw a need for a program that would provide food for students during the weekends. The Food 4 kids program is helping students at Franklin, Lakeview and Foster elementary schools.

“We were inspired by their work,” said Amy Marsh, O.J. Middle School counselor. “We created a separate, but parallel, program to accomplish the same goal but for sixth through 12th grade students.”

Marsh said that the administrators, counselors and food service staff with the support of Family Link and Department of Health and Human Services office in the school worked together to create the Orange and Black pack program.
