Shelton PD: Woman left 3 kids alone, 1 child later died
SHELTON — A woman has been arrested after police say she left three children alone for a short time and one died that same day last December.
Jessyka Oliveira, 30, of Shelton, is charged with three counts of risk of injury to a minor and one count of interfering with a police officer.
Her arrest stems from an incident in December 2018, in which Shelton police and emergency medical services were dispatched to a house in downtown Shelton.
“Medical attention was administered to a 5 month (old) baby who was later pronounced deceased at the hospital,” said a news release from Detective Christopher Nugent.
It was unclear what caused the baby’s death. Police said the case is closed and no additional charges are expected.
An investigation found that two hours before the medical call, Oliveira left three children alone in the residence for “a short period of time,” Nugent said. All the children were under the age of 6, police said. Detectives said Oliveira was untruthful during her initial interviews.
She was released from custody after posting a $5,000 bond and was expected to appear in court on Wednesday, Nugent said.
