Willamette 63, Northern St. 56
NAMPA, Idaho (AP) _ Steve Raze scored 22 points Tuesday night to lead Willamette to the NAIA Division II national title with a 63-56 victory over Northern State.
Willamette (29-4), the third seed, limited Northern State (34-2), the top seed, to 39 percent shooting.
Raze hit four 3-pointers for the Bearcats of Oregon. He was backed by Mike Ward, who had 15 points and 10 rebounds and was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
Eric Kline of Northern State - the tournament’s leading scorer with 109 points - scored 18 points for the South Dakota school.
Northern State led 22-20 at the half before Willamette, behind Raze’s 15 points, rallied.
Willamette’s Scott Baker and Northern State’s Kevin Burckhardt and Eric Kline were among those named to the all-tournament team. Gordie James of Willamette was named coach of the year.
