Marywood Finishes Big
Marywood University finished strong to earn a 74-69 win over SUNY-Potsdam on Saturday in a men’s basketball game.
The Pacers (4-3) outscored Potsdam, 10-5, over the final four minutes to snap a two-game losing streak.
Jack DeGroot led Marywood with 19 points, Jeremy Ringland had 15 points and eight rebounds and Thomas Swartz had 14 points and seven rebounds.
Western Wayne graduate Rachel Carmody had her third straight double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds to lead Misericordia University to a 70-56 win over Salve Regina in the first round of the Sisters of Mercy Classic.
Salve led by 11 in the first quarter, but Tessa Zamolyi hit a 3-pointer to spark an 8-0 run for the Cougars (5-0). Misercordia led by one at halftime and opened the second half on a 10-2 run.
Japriya Carroll scored a game-high 14 points for Misericordia and Mid Valley graduate Erica Haefele added 11 points. Misericordia will face Mt. Aloysius today at noon on the final day of the tournament.
King’s 77, Neumann 57
At Wilkes-Barre, King’s College forced 26 turnovers to earn a win in its home opener.
Rebecca Prociak had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Monarchs (3-2), who outscored Neumann, 41-20, in the second half.
Alexis Steeber had 17 points and six rebounds for King’s. Dunmore graduate Mariah Maciejewski had four points and six rebounds for Neumann.
