Acclaimed Spring Branch barbecue destination closes
Just eight months after opening, the pits have gone cold at noted Spring Branch restaurant Texas 46 BBQ.
“I want to thank everyone for supporting Texas 46,” a message left on the restaurant’s Facebook page Oct. 2 said. “Unfortunately, Texas 46 BBQ has closed its doors and is no longer open.”
Austin-based owner Louis “Cuatro” Kowalski confirmed by text message the business has shuttered for good, and he has no future plans for the property at this time. In September, the Austin American-Statesman reported Kowalski also closed his Freedmen’s barbecue restaurant near the University of Texas campus in l ate August.
During its short run, Texas 46 garnered positive reviews from Express-News dining critic Mike Sutter, who awarded the restaurant a star and a half in a review and later gave it a “worth a drive” rating in the ongoing 52 Weeks of BBQ series.
