Hillier Added to Penguins Staff

August 10, 2000

PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Randy Hillier rejoined the team Thursday as one of new coach Ivan Hlinka’s three assistants.

Hillier, an alternate captain on the Penguins’ 1991 Stanley Cup championship team, will work primarily with the defensemen. Hillier joins Rick Kehoe and Joe Mullen, who previously were hired for Hlinka’s staff.

Hillier had 16 goals, 110 assists and 906 penalty minutes in 543 NHL games, mostly with the Boston Bruins and Penguins.

The Penguins also re-signed forward Dennis Bonvie to a one-year contract.

An enforcer-type forward, Bonvie split last season between Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre-Scranton of the AHL. He had no points and 80 penalty minutes in 28 Penguins games.
