HOUSTON (AP) _ The Houston Rockets signed star point guard Steve Francis to a multiyear contract extension Monday.

The 6-3, 195-pound Francis was an NBA All-Star for the first time last season and was heading into the final year of his current contract.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

``There is no player with a more ferocious desire to win than Steve,″ Rockets owner Les Alexander said. ``Combine that with the tremendous work ethic and unbelievable talent, and you have one of the most dynamic young players in all of sport.″

Francis averaged 22 points, seven assists and seven rebounds last season despite suffering from occasional migraine headaches. Doctors recently diagnosed the cause as a fluid buildup in his inner ear.
