Emergency helicopter service celebrates 20th anniversary
BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Maine’s emergency helicopter service is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
LifeFlight held ceremonies Monday for the occasion at its hangers in Bangor, Lewiston and Sanford.
Many former patients were in attendance, including Husson University student Tristan Kaldenberg.
Kaldenberg was traveling to Bangor from Massachusetts when he was injured in a head-on collision in 2017. He says without LifeFlight, “I would not be here today.”
LifeFlight was launched in 1998 by the former Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems and Central Maine Healthcare. It has expanded to include 107 workers and four bases.
Its crew has transported more than 25,000 patients.
