Lille beats Evian 3-0 to move 2nd in French league
LILLE, France (AP) — Lille cruised to a 3-0 win at home to Evian to move provisionally into second place in the French league on Tuesday.
The home side took the lead in the 12th minute when a free kick was headed out straight to Florent Balmont, whose fierce shot was deflected into the bottom right corner by Salomon Kalou with a sidefoot volley.
Lille doubled its advantage 20 minutes later in somewhat fortunate circumstances. Nolan Roux headed Balmont’s cross onto the crossbar but the ball rebounded onto the back of Evian goalkeeper Jesper Hansen — who was making his debut — and into the net.
Substitute Ronny Rodelin sealed the victory in the 72nd minute, moments after replacing Roux.
Lille moved a point behind Monaco ahead of the rest of the midweek round.
