Post Office no longer allowing homeless to stay overnight

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina post office will no longer allow homeless to sleep inside overnight.

The State reports that people have relieved themselves in the lobby and that vandalism has also been an issue in the Five Points post office in Columbia.

Postal employee Leslie Jones says people who stayed inside the post office have been “urinating, defecating, naked.”

The area containing post office boxes had been open 24 hours, seven days a week. Now it is locked overnight.
