Moya, Clavet advance; Arazi exits

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) _ Top-seeded Carlos Moya advanced to the quarterfinals of the Grolsch Open with a 6-4, 6-3 victory Wednesday over fellow Spaniard Fernando Vicente.

Moya’s next opponent will be defending champion and No. 8 seed Francisco Clavet, who won another all-Spanish match, beating Emilio Alvarez 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

Magnus Norman, the No 4. seed, defeated fellow Swede Magnus Gustafsson 6-4, 6-4, and will play Christian Ruud in the quarterfinals. The Norwegian ousted Germany’s Hendrik Dreekmann 7-5, 6-4 in their second-round match.

No. 6 seed Javier Sanchez of Spain survived a hard-fought duel with Argentinian Hernan Gumy 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) and Marcello Filippini of Uruguay also needed three sets to defeat Moroccan Karim Alami 6-3, 3-6, 6-0.

John Lottum, a wild-card entry, beat fellow Dutchman Dennis van Scheppingen 6-0, 7-6 (7-5).

Czech Slava Dosedel upset seventh seeded Hicham Arazi of Morocco 7-5, 7-6 (9-7).
