Man Shot to Death; Burger Taken
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ A 72-year-old nursing home resident was shot and killed by four young men who robbed him of the cheeseburger and fries he had picked up at a fast-food restaurant, police said.
″What can you say about people who rob someone of a cheeseburger and french fries?″ said Capt. Gary VanBuskirk of the city’s homicide unit. ″There aren’t enough adjectives to describe those kinds of people.″
John Gardner of Kansas City was shot once in the head about 10:20 p.m. Thursday, minutes after he bought his dinner, police said. In his hand, Gardner still clutched a dollar bill and coins.
Witnesses told police they heard a shot and saw four young men run from the area. No descriptions of the robbers were available.
Gardner had been returning to the Harvest Home Estates nursing home when he was killed, police said.
