La Porte County Academic Super Bowl Invitational slated
WESTVILLE – Purdue Northwest will host its 11th annual Senior Academic Super Bowl Invitational for high schools in La Porte County and beyond on March 7 on the Westville campus. The event is free and open to the public.
The competition will be in the Great Hall at the James B. Dworkin Student Activities Center. High school students from nine schools in the greater La Porte County area will compete in the senior-division event. Participating schools are: Elkhart Christian Academy, Home Scholars (Lake, Porter, La Porte counties), LaCrosse High School, La Porte High School, Marquette Catholic High School, New Prairie High School, North White High School, Oregon-Davis High School and South Central High School.
The competition theme is “The Fertile Crescent.” Students will compete in six subject areas – science, English, fine arts, social studies, math and interdisciplinary.
Academic Super Bowl competition in Indiana is part of the Indiana Association of School Principals, Department of Student Programs. It is a unique inter-scholastic academic competition program which allows Indiana’s senior high, junior, middle and elementary school students an opportunity to compete in academics similar to the way they compete in athletics.
The objectives of academic competitions encourage academic achievement by offering the participants recognition and reward. By honoring intellectual achievement, academic competition celebrates scholarship. The competition begins at 4:30 p.m.

6:25 p.m. - Science, Lindsay Gielda, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Biology
7 p.m. - Fine Arts, Judy Jacobi, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Univ. Art Collections and Special Programs
7:40 p.m. - Interdisciplinary, Mark Jacobi, M.D., Pediatrician
8:15 p.m. - Awards
Trophies will be given to the winning school in each subject area and students will receive ribbons for first, second and third place.
