BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ James Ritchey passed for 231 yards and three touchdowns as Stephen F. Austin beat Samford 31-10 on Saturday.
Austin's strong offensive line gave Ritchey plenty of time to hit long passes while Samford's secondary just wasn't able to keep up with the Lumberjack receivers.
Ritchey went 8-of-19, including touchdown passes of 61 and 87 yards.
The scoring began on Austin's first possession. Dameian Vallery ran 27 yards to cap a five-play, 76-yard drive.
Samford (4-3) came back with a field goal, but it was to be the Bulldog's last score until the third quarter.
In the meantime, Ritchey hit wide receiver Chris Jefferson for a 61-yard touchdown pass and then connected with a wide-open Kevin Goodwin for an 87-yard score. He added his third TD pass of the half on a 1-yard toss to Michael Oyedokun to make it 28-3 Austin (7-0) with 1:35 left.
Samford cut the lead to 28-10 after Bart Yancey burrowed up the middle for a one-yard TD run and Mike Howell kicked the extra point.
Austin's Brian Minton kicked a 32-yard field goal to end the scoring with 9:06 left in the game.
