ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ Reliever Albie Lopez, who set personal bests for wins and innings pitched with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays last season, agreed Friday to a $1.8 million, two-year contract.

Lopez, who was eligible for arbitration, appeared in a career-high 54 games for the expansion team in 1998, going 7-4 with a 2.60 ERA in 79 2-3 innings.

Lopez, who made $245,000 last season, gets $800,000 this year and $900,000 in 2000. The Devil Rays have a $1 million option for 2001 with a $100,000 buyout.

Last season was Lopez's first in which he worked exclusively out of the bullpen. The 27-year-old right-hander was Tampa Bay's 24th selection in the expansion draft, coming from the Cleveland Indians.
