SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) _ Alayne Ingram scored a game-high 25 points as No. 19 Michigan defeated Syracuse, 84-76, Sunday afternoon.
Michigan (3-1) closed out the first half with a 17-8 run for a 47-31 lead at intermission. The Wolverines were 10-of-10 from the free throw line and shot 61.5 percent from the field, including 5-of-7 from three-point range in the opening half.
Stephanie Gandy finished with 14 points and LeeAnn Bies had 12 points for Michigan. Jennifer Smith added 10 for the Wolverines.
Syracuse (3-1) found its shot in the second half, going on a 14-5 run to come within 52-45 of the Wolverines as Julie McBride converted on two three-point plays in the scoring stretch for Syracuse.
Michigan answered with two three-point shots by Ingram as the Wolverines led 65-53 with 9:27 left. Syracuse got as close as 67-60 with 8:09 left on consecutive threes by Jaime James.
Shannon Perry led Syracuse with 19 points. James finished with 18 points and McBride had 16 for Syracuse.
