LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) _ No. 12 Louisiana Tech, led by Karl Malone's 21 points and 14 rebounds, outscored McNeese State 30-9 on either side of halftime Thursday night en route to an 88-69 Southland Conference basketball victory.
Louisiana Tech, dominating every phase of the game, outscored McNeese 20-9 in the last 8:44 of the first half to take a 0-27 lead at intermission. Then, after the break, Louisiana Tech went on a 10-0 spree to go up 50-27 and the Bulldogs never led by less than 15 points after that.
The victory made Louisiana Tech 16-1 overall and 3-0 atop the Southland standings. McNeese State fell to 9-7 and 2-2.
Fellow starters Robert Goldbolt had 15 points and Willie Simmons 14 to join Malone in double figures. They were helped by Willie Bland, who got eight of his 13 points in the spurt just before halftime.
McNeese State was led by Joe Dumars' 21 points, while Jerome Batiste added 15 and Guy McInnis 14 for the Cowboys.
