SINGAPORE (AP) _ A man who got drunk on martinis during a Singapore Airlines flight and smashed a television screen was fined and sentenced to prison, court documents showed Wednesday.

Barua Suman, 41, of India, was fined $549 and sentenced on Tuesday to three weeks in prison for his March 16 outburst during the Singapore-bound flight. He also has to pay Singapore Airlines $2,582 to fix the television screen, the documents showed.

Suman, who embarked in Paris, was on his way to Calcutta, India, via Singapore. As the scheduled 13-hour flight crossed over Eastern Europe, Suman ``was seen to be tipsy,'' records showed.

But a number of hours and ``several rounds of martinis'' later, he began to disturb other passengers. Attendants ceased serving him alcohol and he began complaining and then ``started talking nonsense,'' documents said.

Shortly before the plane landed in Singapore, Suman became enraged and punched the television display. He was arrested when the plane landed.
