NEW YORK (AP) _ General Thomas came from off the pace, hit the line 2 1/4 lengths in front and survived a claim of foul to win the $40,000 feature race Friday at Aqueduct.
Ridden by Pablo Fragoso, the 32-1 shot returned $67.50, $16.00 and $7.20. Stewards disallowed the claim of interference lodged by Norberto Arroyo Jr., the rider of second-place finisher Need to Please.
General Thomas carried 118 pounds over 1 mile, 70 yards in 1:45 3/5, earning $24,000 for Sanford J. Goldfarb and his ownership group. The victory was the second in seven career starts for the Old Trieste colt.
Third in a field of seven 3-year-olds was Phone in the Money.
Need to Please paid $4.20 and $3.80, and Phone in the Money was $3.90.
