THIBODAUX, La. (AP) _ Kenderick Franklin scored 22 points to lead Nicholls State to a 86-69 victory Saturday over Loyola of New Orleans.
The Colonels won for the second time in the last three contests to improve to 2-5 on the season.
Loyola (2-8) was led by Jamal Johnson's 13 points, as Yussef Jasmine with 11 and Bryan Harden with 10.
Linzie Green scored 19 points for Nicholls and Jason McCutcheon added 15.
Nicholls never trailed in the game as they started off with a 17-5 run over the first seven-plus minutes of the contest.
Lorezno Wright hit the first two buckets of the game and the Colonels got 3-pointers from Russell McCutcheon and Franklin to start the opening spurt.
The Colonels led by as much as 19, at 38-19 with 4:08 to play. The score was 45-29 at halftime.
Blake Sanz opened the second half for the visitors with a 3-pointer as Loyola scored the first five points of the opening moments of the second half.
Nicholls, though, scored the next nine points as they got consecutive dunks off steals, each by a McCutcheon brother.
Despite being out rebounded 39-30, the Colonels converted 51.6 percent of its shots in contest (32-of-62) including 8-of-22 from 3-point range for a 36 percent average.
