TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — A Redondo Beach man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend and her 59-year-old mother.
Jonathan Scott Chacón was convicted last month of two counts of first-degree murder.
He was sentenced Friday in a Torrance courtroom to two consecutive life terms, plus an additional two years for using a knife
Chacon and his 2-year-old son were at the apartment of his girlfriend's mother, Vicki Bergman, when she and her 19-year-old daughter, Courtney, were attacked.
He fled to Baja California after the Feb. 28, 2012, slayings. Mexican police captured him at a Rosarito Beach hotel and returned him to the United States the next day.
Chacon, 26, testified at his trial that the killings were in self-defense.
