SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) — Police in upstate New York say they've arrested a man who shot a woman and her two children.

Schenectady police officials say the suspected gunman, 47-year-old DeShawn Howard, shot a 35-year-old woman alongside her 7-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter during a domestic dispute early Tuesday. The victims are currently in stable but guarded condition at local hospitals.

Howard led police on a manhunt before he was taken into custody at a Schenectady residence Tuesday afternoon. Police say he suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and is being treated at a local hospital.

Police Chief Eric Clifford declined to discuss what led to the shooting or reveal a possible motive, citing the ongoing investigation.

Howard is expected to be charged with multiple felonies.
