Belchertown police chief placed on paid leave
Sep. 15, 2015
BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (AP) — The Belchertown Board of Selectmen has placed police Chief Francis Fox on paid leave following reports that he was pulled over by police in a neighboring town for driving erratically but was not arrested despite appearing to be drunk.
The board on Monday unanimously backed the chairman's decision to place Fox on administrative leave.
Fox was pulled over in Granby on Feb. 1.
According to the Granby police report, Fox was unsteady on his feet and almost fell over when he got out of his vehicle. His breath smelled of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot.
No alcohol breath test was administered and Fox was driven home by the Granby officer.
Fox has not commented but will get his chance in a private meeting before the board on Thursday.
