Italian Report: Libyan Leader Weds Daughter of Khashoggi
Aug. 08, 1987
ROME (AP) _ Libyan leader Col. Moammar Gadhafi has married the 25-year-old daughter of Saudi Arabian oil magnate Adnan Khashoggi, an Italian newspaper reported Saturday.
Milan's Corriere Della Sera, Italy's largest circulation daily, quoted unidentified ''highly reliable'' sources in the foreign diplomatic community in Rome as saying that Gadhafi recently wed Nabila Khashoggi.
It said that as a gift to the bride's family, Gadhafi had signed a contract to sell Khashoggi Libyan crude at below the market price.
Khashoggi, once reputed to be the richest man in the world, is said to be facing financial difficulties.
The newspaper gave no other details, including where and when the marriage had taken place.
Ghadhafi divorced his first wife and later married a nurse, but the newspaper did not comment on the status of that marriage. Libya's official JANA news agency has not carried any report on the subject and repeated efforts by The Associated Press to reach Libyan officials by telephone were unsuccessful. Khashoggi's whereabouts were unknown.
