Australian paceman Cummins injures back again
Aug. 19, 2013
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Pace bowler Pat Cummins has injured his back again and is expected to miss the entire Australian cricket season.
Cricket Australia chief medical officer Justin Paoloni on Monday said the 20-year-old Cummins, who was man-of-the-match in his only test to date, suffered a recurrence of his lower back bone stress injury during the Australia A tour to Zimbabwe and will likely be sidelined for the 2013-14 season.
Cummins took seven wickets on debut, helping Australia to a narrow, series-leveling win in South Africa in November 2011, but has been sidelined by a string of injuries since his sparkling entry to test cricket.
With pace and youth in his favor, Cummins has been tipped as a long-term prospect in test cricket. Australia is in England preparing for the fifth test of an Ashes series it has already lost.
