WATERTOWN, N.Y. (AP) _ An explosion at a paper mill in northern New York killed one worker and injured six others early Wednesday.

The blast was reported shortly after midnight in an area of the Knowlton Specialty Paper Co. plant where explosive chemicals were stored, fire officials said. One wall of the building crumbled.

Two injured workers were hospitalized in critical condition, one was in serious condition, and three were treated and released, authorities said Wednesday. Thomas W. Traynor of Watertown was killed, Watertown Police Sgt. Ted Wells said.

The cause of the explosion was under investigation.
