ARETHA FRANKLIN: HER MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
WASHINGTON (AP) — Aretha Franklin won 18 Grammys, had the most Billboard Hot 100 hits of any female artist with 73, was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was presented with both the National Medal of Arts and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She did not consider any of those her greatest achievement. Franklin said in a 2009 Associated Press interview singing at Barack Obama's presidential inauguration was "the biggest milestone and the greatest historical moment" of her career. Franklin said she wanted to be remembered as a "good woman first, and a humanitarian first, and then a great artist." One thing she did think was curious, though: how people went crazy for that hat she wore to Obama's inauguration. She said she had no idea it would have so much "notoriety."

WHY ARETHA FRANKLIN HATED FLYING
WASHINGTON (AP) — Aretha Franklin famously had a fear of flying -- but why? Franklin said in a 2004 Associated Press interview one reason was a bad flight out of Atlanta once. She said she "never should have gotten on a little two-engine plane" because it was "bad news." She also was shaken up after Otis Redding died in a plane crash in 1967. Franklin came to enjoy bus travel. She told Time magazine in 1998, "You can pull over, go to Red Lobster. You can't pull over at 35,000 feet."

She said she had a bunch of recipes that came together in 10 or 15 minutes that "almost will cook themselves."
