CARSON, California (AP) — Los Angeles' Landon Donovan, Gyasi Zardes and Baggio Husidic scored two goals apiece as the Galaxy smashed ten-man Colorado 6-0 on Friday to move within two points of the Major League Soccer Western Conference lead.
Los Angeles won its fifth straight game, while Colorado has lost in a row.
Colorado goalkeeper Joe Nasco was shown a red card in the first minute of the match for bringing down Alan Gordon inside the 6-yard box. Donovan's penalty caught backup goalkeeper Clint Irwin diving the wrong way. Donovan converted another penalty in the 47th minute.
It was the earliest red card in MLS history. New York's Carlos Johnson was sent off in the second minute in a 2009 match.
Husidic calmly curled in a goal in the 30th minute and added another in the 86th off Donovan's pass. Just before halftime, Zardes slotted home a perfect ball from Donovan and headed in his 14th goal of the season in the 75th minute.
Donovan, retiring after the season, has 131 assists to move within four of tying Steve Ralston's MLS record.
