PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Doug Macdonald scored a goal and assisted on another Saturday as Wisconsin beat St. Lawrence 5-2 in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA hockey tournament.

The victory in the East Regionals moved the Badgers into the final four round, beginning Thursday in Albany, N.Y.

Blaine Moore had two goals in the third period for Wisconsin (26-13-2) and Chris Wells had a pair for the Saints (22-10-2), who were seeded second in the East.

Macdonald skated the length of the ice and fired from a sharp angle to beat St. Lawrence goalie Paul Spagnoletti at 19:18 of the first period to break a 1-1 tie.

Then he sent Jason Zent and Dan Plante in 2-on-1 with Plante passing to Zent for the score that made it 3-1 at 18:12 of the second period.

Chris Tucker gave Wisconsin a 1-0 lead at 1:53 of the first period when Brian Rafalski hit him with a pass at the St. Lawrence goalmouth.

Wells came back to tie it at 6:02 with a power play goal, ramming a pass from Eric LaCroix past Wisconsin goalie Duane Derksen.

The Badgers pushed the lead to 4-1 when Moore deflected Plante's shot into the net at 12:56 of the third period. Wells answered for St. Lawrence with his second goal of the game at 14:14.

Moore scored the final Badger goal at 18:54, converting a breakaway pass from Brett Kurtz.

Wisconsin killed off a two-man St. Lawrence advantage for 1:49 at the close of the second period and the opening of the third.

Derksen had 21 saves for the Badgers, Spagnoletti 25 for the Saints.
