GARY, Ind. (AP) — The father of a 4-year-old boy killed in a northwestern Indiana apartment fire expressed concerns about his son's safety during a court hearing six days before that deadly blaze.
The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports court transcripts show Christopher Hardin told a magistrate he feared for his son Khristopher Gober's safety during a March 19 child support hearing.
Gober and his 2-year-old sister, Kailani Gober, died six days later in the March 25 fire.
Hardin says he's devastated. He says the child's mother prevented him from seeing his son in the months before his death.
Thirty-three-year-old Kristen Gober faces two counts of child neglect causing death in the youngsters' deaths.
Authorities say she left them unattended with a 6-year-old brother and the children started the fire while playing with a stove.
