NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) — A 31-year-old Connecticut man has been arrested in connection with a reported abduction attempt involving a 9-year-old girl last month.
Police in New London say Stephen Cardoza, of Norwich, was charged Tuesday with risk of injury to a minor, public indecency, trespassing and breach of peace. He posted $50,000 bail.
Authorities allege Cardoza tried to coax the girl into his truck near an apartment complex on Aug. 3 by telling her that her mother had sent him to pick her up. Police say the girl immediately ran to the nearby home of a relative, who called police.
It wasn't immediately clear if Cardoza has a lawyer who could respond to the allegations. A woman who answered a phone listing for Cardoza Tuesday evening hung up on a reporter.
