Students challenge school's handling of sexual assault
Nov. 21, 2017
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Many University of Wyoming students are examining and questioning how the university handles sexual assault.
The Laramie Boomerang reports several students at the university walked out of class Monday and gathered to show support for sexual assault victims. The students marched across campus to deliver a signed petition to Old Main, the location of University of Wyoming President Laurie Nichols' office.
The petition demanded the university do more to prevent sexual assault and help survivors.
The petition comes as a surge of sexual assault and misconduct allegations sweeps the nation, and after campus police reported an assault occurred on campus earlier this month.
University police say a female victim was walking across a parking lot when an unknown suspect tackled the victim and sexually assaulted her.
